Jasmin Albert and Nina Opacic
Once again the applications for 2023 were extremely high. The trustees awarded a joint scholarship to Jasmin Albert and Nina Opacic. Francesca Zhang, Bridget McLay and Yasmin Olsen were also awarded grants to assist with their studies.
2022
Ruby Sands
The Trustee awarded a grant to Ruby Sands for $30,000 to study at the London School of Economics.
2021
Lisa Claire McLaren
The quality of applications for the scholarship this year was extremely high. Lisa Claire McLaren was awarded a $20,000 grant to support completion of her PhD in Climate Change at the Joint Centre for Disaster Research at Massey University.
2018
Gretta Schumacher and Isabelle Smith
The competition for the scholarship was extremely tough this year. Accordingly, the interview panel awarded two grants.
A grant of $20,000 to Gretta Schumacher to support her studies overseas in Bachelor of Civil Law (post-graduate legal qualification) at Oxford University.
A grant was also awarded to Isabelle Smith to support her Master of Laws with an Environmental focus at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington D.C.

Ella Watt
The Trustee awarded a grant to Ella Watt in support of her admission at Columbia University in New York Law School’s 2017-2018 LL.M. Program.
2016
Jamie Marie Flack
The Trustees have awarded a grant to Jamie Marie Flack to support her future studies of a Master of Arts in Criminology at Victoria University of Wellington.

Helen Churchman
The Trustees have awarded a grant to Helen Churchman who intends to study her Masters in Law at New York University in International Legal Studies.
2013
Kate Yesberg, Elinor Swery, Briony Bennett and Faith Jeremiah
The quality of applications to the scholarship this year was extremely high. Accordingly, (with the generosity of Yvonne Smith), the interview panel awarded Kate Yesberg, Elinor Swery, Briony Bennett and Faith Jeremiah grants towards their studies.
Kate has been accepted to New York University to study for a Master of Laws.
Elinor has been accepted to the University of Auckland to study a PhD in Mechanical Engineering.
Briony Bennett has been accepted to Paris School of International Affairs for a Master of International Energy.
Faith Jeremiah has been accepted to University of Canterbury for a PhD in Commerce.

Jessica Gorman
The Trustees have also awarded a grant to Jessica Gorman who intends to study her masters in Law in either the United States or United Kingdom.
2011
Nicola Leslie and Alexis Rider
There were two other outstanding applications received this year. Nicola Leslie and Alexis Rider were awarded grants towards their studies.
Nicola has been accepted into the University of Oxford to study for a Masters in International Law. She begins her studies in September 2011.
Alexis is going to study for a Master of Arts degree at the New School for Social Research in New York, specialising in Migration studies. She begins her studies in August 2011.
2010
Melanie Haeata and Kate Alexander
The quality of applications to this year’s scholarship was extremely high. Accordingly, and with the generosity of Yvonne Smith, the interview panel awarded two further grants.
A grant of $5,000 was awarded to Melanie Rewa Jane Haeata, pursuing a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Waikato. Melanie will be examining the correlational relationship between maternal and paternal pre-natal anxiety in depression within the New Zealand context.
A grant of $10,000 was also awarded to Kate Vivienne Alexander who will be studying Mandarin at Shenzen University in China, and conjointly undertaking a Masters degree in Political Science at Canterbury University. Kate’s research will be looking the social impact of New Zealand companies’ off-shore supply chains, particularly off-shore labour conditions. Kate will be investigating corporate social responsibility initiatives by New Zealand companies in China.
2009
Anna Jane Bradley, Deb Rowe and Vanessa Burrett
The quality of applications to the scholarship this year was extremely high. Accordingly, (with the generosity of Yvonne Smith), the interview panel decided that three further grants would be awarded.
A grant of $10,000 was awarded to Anna Jane Bradley, a previous Judge’s Clerk and current prosecutor, who will be undertaking a Master of Laws at Harvard Law School, focusing on criminal sentencing guidelines. Anna has also been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship.
A $10,000 grant was also awarded to Deb Rowe who is a neo-natal nurse undertaking a PhD in Health Science at the University of Auckland, focusing on determining what a safe nursing culture is and how it can be embedded into the practice of nursing in New Zealand public hospitals.
$10,000 was also awarded to Vanessa Burrett, current president of the YWCA Hamilton, who is studying a Master of Social Science in Psychology at the same time as a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology at the University of Waikato. Vanessa is studying the assessment of risk and treatment of intellectually disabled sex offenders.
